Question Can I convert?

Hi Guy's, I've just bought an Epson RX560 printer/Scanner thingy & when I switch it on I get A message telling me that the device will run faster on a USB 2.0 port.
How do I go about converting my USB ports into 2.0?

I did a search to find out a bit more & found USB 2.0 Hi Speed PCI Cards??
Do these convert my USB 1.1 into USB 2.0?, if not how do I go about it & what do I need to buy??

Cheers, Sandy B

Re: Can I convert?

No, you cannot convert 1.1 to 2.0. 2.0 uses different hardware and drivers. As b_d suggests, some computers have both - try a port in a different pair. If none turn out to be 2.0, you will have to add an inexpensive card. See here for a 100 or so to choose from.

Hi, I have a 2001 Compaq Evo D300v, only has 2 USB ports, one port has my 4-Port USB Hub & other has the Printer/Scanner.

I swapped them over but still no joy.

There is an unused 25 pin conection with a picture of a printer next to it but my printer Has USB connector.

Thanks for quick reply, Sandy.

Hi, thanks I think I need a new card, thes cards are similar to the ones I was looking at but I was'nt sure if these were just extra ports for exsiting 2.0 ports or for adding USB 2.0 to my Pc.

I'm geussing that if I buy one of thes cards my 2 existing ports will stay 1.1?

Do you recommend any card in particular I've heard Belkin is a good make?

Donation on it's way.
Thanks again, Sandy.

Re: Can I convert?

Belkin is a reputible company, I know nothing of their USB cards. But these are pretty low-tech devices. I would not get the cheapest, but you don't have to spend a fortune either. BTW - I would not expect a huge increase in speed once connected.
