Sound problem

Up until today my laptop has been able to switch seamlessly between my laptops speakers and when I use my headphones and had no sound. No whenever i unplug my headphones to listen to music on iTunes or watch movies the song or movie will pause and ill have to start in over in order to listen to it on my speakers where as i used to be able to do it instantly. I've reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime and I also reinstalled my sound driver which gave me my sound back but the problem still exists
