Exclamation Hoe to scan a computer to tell everything is working properly

Hello DAL peoples,

I am going to be trading for a Dell XPS tomorrow (May 20th) at 5:00pm. I wanted to know if there was any software, preferably freeware, that I could use to make sure the PC that I am going to be trading for, at all aspects, is functioning properly. To make sure all operations are working so I don't get screwed. These are the details he has posted:

dell xps
3.46 hyperthreading
2 gb of ram
230 gb hard drive
radeon x800 xt

Any comment on the PC's performance or how to's would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks dnk.

As to specs you can run Belarc:

Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

As to a quick test you can run PC Pitstop:

Welcome to PC PitStop!

Re: Hoe to scan a computer to tell everything is working properly

For some reason, when I try pcpitstop it encounters a problem with my 3D video card test. But that's what I'm looking for. It may work on the PC I'm trading for.

Are their no other programs etc. like pcpitstop's services?

You can run the Windows 3D tests via:

start Run... dxdiag > Display > 3D Tests

Re: Hoe to scan a computer to tell everything is working properly

For the 3d on your comp try this: from the start menu click run and type in "dxdiag" [no quotes]. Now click on display and look to see if it says if there are any problems. Under directx features [same page] make sure that the 3 types of acceleration are all enabled. I'm not running XP right now but I think that it gives you the option to run tests. If it does take them and see if your computer passes.

One question: is the computer used? One thing that you can do is to open up the system properties page [right click on computer or my computer and select properties] and check to see if the specs match what they are suppose to be. Another would be to download CPU-Z for more system info or PCWizard for even more system info [advanced].

Re: Hoe to scan a computer to tell everything is working properly

I was just wondering is this a laptop or desktop? Dell's XPS is suppose to be their higher end computer however yours is a little older but thats ok. So is mine. If it runs fine and works for what you need it to then great. The P4 is out of date although it is fast, one of the fastest ones that they made. It is most definitely better and much more modern than what you had.
