Problem installing from cd/dvd

I had problems installing programmes on my pc but no problems installing it on my partners. I bought a new dvd drive but still had problems, i then bought a new hdd and did a clean install of win xp but still have problems. During installation i get the message -
E:\programfiles\codemasters\lotro\client_highres.d at an error occured while trying to copy a file. The source file is corrupted, or similar messages installing othe programmes.
I know that the cd 's are fine because I have succesfuly installed them on my partners machine which has an inferior spec to my own.
I have tried installing in safe mode, copying all files fom the cd to my hdd and installing from there and changing the drive from dma to pio to slow down the transfer rate. I've used Nero to check the cd's and the drive too and it reports no problems.
I really need help, what could be causing this problem?
