hard drive problem

Hello

I think I have an hard drive problem,but I cant be sure. When I boot up the PC the monitor displays the wallpaper for what seems to be an eternity,then the icons appear,the cursor works when I move the mouse but doesn`t open any icons,and the hard drive sounds like it is hunting all the time.
Any suggestions.

You've not specified what operating system you are using...

Anyway, from what you have described (and me assuming you're on Windows XP) it would appear that your drive needs a DEFRAG.

To do this, when your PC eventually fully boots up, right click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. When that opens there is a an option on the left hand window that says 'Disk Defragmenter'. Select this and Defrag your C: drive. Depending on the size of your disk and the amount of used and free space, this could take a fair amount of time (a few hours sometimes).
