Roy,

I have had a look online and have came across a later release for your webcam. The livecam vx-1000 on the microsoft website.

i would have attached the setup file but the file is over 40mb and i am sure that the moderator would not be best pleased by this. So i have attached the link below to it.

before you install the software, disconnect the webcam from your computer, uninstall any previous software you already have installed for the webcam, and then install the software. it will more than likely prompt you during the installation at what point to plug the camera in, if it doesnt then do it at the end when you press Finish and hopefully this should get you up and running.

The software link below is for the following conditions, so as long as you meet all these download the software.
- Windows XP
- Webcam Model: VX-1000
- Your copy of Windows is in the language: English

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ifeCam2.04.exe

After you click the above link, or copy and paste into your address bar then the setup file will come straight up, press Run and then wait for the download to complete and go through as normal.

Any questions / issues reply to this post.

Roy,

Have you got any other USB devices (scanner / printer) that you can connect into the port you currently have your webcam connected into to check if they are working.

Are you connecting the webcam straight into the PC / laptop USB ports or via a seperate USB hub. a hub could be USB ports found on the keyboard, in a seperate device that plugs into your computer and provides additional ports. If you are currently connecting into the hub then try plugging direct into the PC / laptop ports.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
As you suggested I tried my scanner in the USB both directly into pc and via a hub.The result is the same as with the webcam!!
Although I haven't used the scanner for a while,I know it was ok last time I did use it.
regards
Roy

that would suggest to me that there is a problem with the USB Ports themselves, it could suggest a motherboard fault or simply a power issue with the USB Ports not being controlled correctly.

I have got to shoot out now, but can you let me know if you are using a laptop or a PC. Also if you know the make of Motherboard your using would be great, if not then its not a problem.

Roy,

Go into Device Manager on the computer, at the very bottom click the + against Universal Serial Bus Controllers (USB) and then you will get possibly a couple of options, possibly loads. the only options you want to be concerned with are those that say "USB Root Hub" right click these (one after the other) and select Properties. Then left click the Power Management tab across the top and ensure there is no tick in "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Do this to all of the USB Root Hub options, and OK each of them after making sure there is no tick in any of them.

Once you have done this, install the Webcam again from the link I provided you above in an earlier post. And Bob's your Uncle, James your IT Man you should be up and running again.

If not then you know who to call. yes me. Any problems / questions respond to this post.

oh and no i am not fed up of you yet. the interesting problems are always the tricky problems. all day at work i get phone calls saying "the numbers on my keyboard arent working, and the simple answer is they didnt have num lock on."
