anyone know how to FORCE IE6 to install despite the fact it says it finds a newer version of IE????
Had a problem recently of ANY streaming video embedded in webpages crashing browsers (ALL browsers, IE, Firefox, etc.) See thread
Please Help Media Player Problems
Okay I digress. To make a long story short I had uninstalled IE in a really stupid attempt to re-install IE6. At this point I would like to make clear I do not really USE IE6, I use Firefox. So we uninstall and try to re-install except the IE6 install says it is already installed and CLOSES without giving an option to install anyway (BIG thanks to MS for that, brilliant GUI design there). So I do the IE install through windows setup, knowing it will install IE4. Then I attempt to do an update, but it will only attempt an automatic update, and that is turned off (by me, I prefer to manually update)
Okay, so I try to open the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) only to find that it requires IE5.5 or higher to run. WTH? Okay how dumb is this? The SAME windows install that installs MMC also installs a version of IE that is not compatible for MMC to run. In other words, it's faulty right out of the box. I know I should not be surprised, but somehow I still am. I really don't care if IE works or not, I don't use it, but I DO need the MMC to run.
I could fix all this in the wink of an eye if I could just get the stupid IE6 setup to install. I have looked high and low in the registry and I cannot find the registry entry that says IE6 is installed.
Anyone know how to enforce IE6 to install or how remove the registry entry that says IE6 is installed?? Every single other program on my computer recognizes that only IE4 is installed EXCEPT the IE6 installer. How Ironic.
