Flash.ocx

An error message says that the flash component flash.ocx is missing, is that why one of the accounts on my computer refuses to load any flash content? If so please explain how to fix it.

Go to the macromedia website and download and install the latest free flash player.
No need to remove existing version.

I get this pest several times a day on a PC (98SE) that I just use for data, e-mail amd Firefox browsing for info. I have to left click over 1000 times a day to shift this pest which sits in centre of screen! Have updated the Macromedia file. Anyone know what happens if I delete the whole Macromedia thing from Windows\System and Windows\Application Data? (I don't need pics and sound when browsing). Or perhaps I should delete IE6 and just use Firefox? Also as the PC in question is a nightmare to start up will the removal create a further problem at start up as PC looks for yet another missing component? (Why am I persevering with a computer from Hell? Answer : I am trying to get it to behave sufficiently to recover lost data THEN I will smash it to pieces with a sledge hammer!)

Well I appear to have sorted it. I changed MY screensaver back to one that came with the Windows operating system! As simple as that...in the end!! Infuriating multiple error message does not seem to have returned!

I suddenly got an error message using Internet Explorer that it encountered a problem with Flash.ocx add-on. it caused my Internet Explorer web browser to crash and shut down. Here's what I did to try to circumvent the problem: I did a system restore to a few days earlier and Presto!!! Problem solved.

This problem is usually due to a programme looking for an old version of flash. The 'missing' file used to be called flash.ocx but since version 6 the filename has the version number on the end of it (eg flash10b.ocx). Older programmes are hard-wired to look for the file by the original name and throw up an error message when they can't find it.
