Viewing Video clips..help.

Everything was fine untill the wife loaded her Apple Ipod stuff onto the computer.
Now the problem is that when I want to view a video clip, the Ipod video comes up intead of the Windows media player that worked so well for me in the past.

How can I set this up so Windows Media Player is the default setting for viewing media clips??

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

Right-click the file in Windows Explorer and choose "Open with" now select "Choose Program"

Find Windows Media Player in the list, highlight it and check the box which says "Always use the selected program to open this type of file"

Click "OK"

Hope that helps

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

Thanks for responding to my question!

I'm using XP. I can't find Widows Explorer in my programs. I right clicked "file" in Internet Explorer but didn't find the "open with" option.

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

Try start > My computer > tools > folder options > file types and scroll down to the file type you want to change. Highlight it and click the change button. Select media player from the options.

I'm oviously doing something wrong but I tried that and it didn't help. It still came up in ""Quicktime".

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

To get into Windows Explorer Right-click the Windows Start button at the bottom left of the screen and then select "Explore"

Now navigate to where you have one of the videos saved and Right-click the video in Windows Explorer and choose "Open with" now select "Choose Program"

Find Windows Media Player in the list, highlight it and check the box which says "Always use the selected program to open this type of file"

Click "OK"

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

okay, I got you, thanks. I found explorer but the problem is that I don't really have any videos saved. I want to be able to open all video clips online using Windows Media Player instead of Quicktime.

If I saved a video and then went through the steps you outlined, will that open up all future clips in Windows Media Player, or do I do something else?

Re: Viewing Video clips..help.

Ah, OK I understand so you mean you are running video online.

It may still overide the online setting yes. Sometimes websites will ask you to choose a default media player to view their video content which then saves as a setting on the browser.

What site are you trying to run video on?
