E-mail from different connections

I regularly have to travel and encounter the same problems of not being able to access my email to send or receive from my talktalk account.
I have been told that this is a very common problem and have searched arround in vain to get a simple work arround this.
Do I have to change my ISP, which would be a lot of hassle and mean changing all my notepaper etc.
I have trided setting up a free smtp server but then seem to run into it not recognising the DNS server.
This is true at this instant as I am using the local authority's library wifi as another web access point.

Any advice please??

Are you using a standalone email client ( outlook / outlook express ) ?

Do you have the correct settings on the talktalk account ?

A lot of DNS connection problems can be solved by flushing the computers DNS cache .

In XP click :

Start > Run > type in the cmd box " ipconfig /flushdns "

In Vista :

Start > run cmd prompt as administrator ( right click and select ) > and type the same command to clear the DNS cache .

Thanks for your response.
I'm using Thunderbird but experience the same with Outlook.

As a work-arround I've set up a Google mail a/c which pulls from its own mail and from the talktalk accounts that i have set up.

Ive not extensively tested this yet but the whole seems to be working well.
All mail is left on the servers after fetching which will not be a problem with Google (7Gbit space) but Talktalk may need some intermittant manual deleting.

Until very recently I relied on a Blackberry and had all my mail pushed to the handset. now I am using a sony ericsson W715 as well as my laptop. and apart from the push facility I can see little difference.....except the fact it's costing me about£45 per month less on my contract!!
