wireless question

I just bought an IBM Thinkpad R52 (used). To use it I also bought a Dlink DIR-655 router and a Dlink DWA-652 cardbus adapter.

Here then is the issue I am having: When I turn the laptop on the network connection icon in the sys tray has the little red X indicating that I'm not connected. So I right click on that icon. In the dialog box that opens I click on the text that reads "Change the order of preferred networks." In the next dialog box I put a check in the box where it reads "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings." I press OK and I'm online.

My question is this: How do I fix it so that "Windows" automatically "configures my wireless network settings" so I don't have to go through this procedure every time I log on?
