Getting connected with 'webinvar' etc/sound problems

Is it because I am on 'dial-up'(beng in rural Australia) or is it that I need a more powerful computer to connect with the overseas web broadcasts? Mine is pretty basic.
I have a need to connect with some information but do not have a connection which provides me with the the full sound etc.
Kind regards
Roseannie

Live Sound and video will always be a problem on dial up.
The only way to listen with dial up is wait until the whole file is downloaded
before playing it
What exactly is happening?
If sound and video is jumpy that's is most likely caused by your slow connection.

Jim

Re: Getting connected with 'webinvar' etc/sound problems

Hi Jim
Thank you
Really you have confirmed that it is thedial -up but I do have an old p.c. too. Broadband is very expensive in Australia, compared to the U.K./U.S I believe and also much slower anyway
As for playing. I cannot play anything which is not fully downloaded and as that did not happen this evening........ Webinvar just gave up. I guess that the download was too slow. I tried this last year & had the same result Actually the technology has outstripped my expertise as I have always worked on a 'need to know' basis.
It is not easy to geta person who is I.T. savvy when one lives in the country.
I will ask around when I go to Adelaide for a computer expert there to advise on the best p.c. to buy without it disadvantaging me financially.
Many thanks again

Sorry I couldn't be more help

Whilst you may have an older P.C just remember it's not the pc
that's the problem but the dial up modem that's the bottle neck.
So don't go go buying spending a lot of dollars on a PC unless you
can do something about your connection speeds.

Jim

Unhappy Re: Getting connected with 'webinvar' etc/sound problems

Hi Jim
Thanks again
I work for a government dept so the computers there are faster, providing they are updated but everyone is complaining about the slowness of booting up. Not so bad once one is in there .
As for me, because I am off the so called 'share-drive'(fast lane so to speak), I have a 'stand-alone'p.c. in my office, unconnected to the main drive and believe me, even though it is broadband it is sooooo slow.
This is why I have not entered into the commercial broadband network here.
Kind regards
I even have difficulty loading a utube clip!!

That seem incredible.
It would be easy for me to go down the lines of blaming the IT department.
But as with all government departments the world over they rarely allocate decent funding for maintenance and can't see how it would benefit them to spend money on upgrades.
So don't blame the IT guy's because they are probably run off their feet

The I.T. Dept & I,it seems, I have a 'ho-hum' approach, so eventually.............as they say"What go's around, comes around"
