BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
Hello everyone @ DAL,
I'm been wanting to get a new graphics card.I have checked and consulted to make sure this card is compatible, no problems there.
I currently have an ATI Radeon X800XT PCI Express x16, and it has a single 4 prong connector running to it (power cords or data wires idk). But on the Geforce card I didn't see any type of connector or wires adapter of any sort. Being a different brand I guess it has a different setup and its bus powered.
I would just like to know if I need any additional connectors for this card, so when I receive it I'm not sitting there blue balled because I don't have the right adapters. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.
Thankx,

Re: BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
No aux power required.
When you get into the 8800 series a 1 or 2 x 6 pin PCI_E power lead is required but not for this 8600.
They say 325 Watt PSU plus a minimum 512 RAM on the board.

Re: BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
Thanks for the help jephree,
Nice reply time . That's good to hear.
If don't mind just to make sure I'm going to install it correctly.
In startup, check BIOS make sure I have onboard video
Uninstall ATI drivers
Install new card
Turn BIOS onboard video on
install drivers?

Re: BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
Your second is correct. Find new drivers, remove old drivers, shut off computer, remove old card, add new card, boot into windows, & install drivers.

OR - you could out the card maker's site, find your card, download and RTFM and find out the manufacturer's recommended way. Now there's a concept!

Re: BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
Your guys reply time is legendary compared to other forums, great work!
Townsbg thank you for the advice. I'm all set. Game on!
Digerati I'm just asking, there's no need for that. "Check out the manufacturer's website" would have been fine. I didn't disrespect you treating me like a fool.
I don't appreciate the disrespect. .

Re: BFG Geforce 6800GT connection question
No disrespect meant - that's why I included the link to your card's actual manual INSTEAD of simply saying, "read the manual!" That would be disrespectful. Don't be so sensitive! The pinch and wink should have told you something too.
My point was, and is, as with just about any piece of hardware, that hardware makers make these manuals available on their websites for a purpose, so we can download the most current manuals (and most recent drivers) NOW, before the card arrives so we can become familiar with its features, and power connections, and installation procedures so we don't do something foolish after it does arrive.
