Unhappy new laptop hard drive

I have a fujitsu siemens amilo li2727 and have bought a 320gb sata hard drive for it but when i use the backup/recovery discs to install the drive I get 837 (null). I thought it would be straight forward to change the drive and then restore everything to the new drive. Any ideas

Re: new laptop hard drive

That laptop runs SATA I not SATA II.

My first educated guess would be you bought a SATA II drive.

Check the rear of the drive if there is a jumper to revert to SATA I.

Re: new laptop hard drive

This is the drive i have bought
320 GB Fujitsu MHZ2320BH Notebook, 2.5", SATA 3Gb/s, 5400rpm, 8MB Cache, 12 ms
I have also heard that there is a problem with the recovery/restore discs. I have used the discs on the original drive with no problem but when using them with the new drive i get the script error 873 (null) message

Re: new laptop hard drive

Again that is a SATA II (3Gb/s) drive on a SATA I (1.5Gb/s) motherboard.

Do you see any jumpers on the rear to convert it?

Does your BIOS detect it?
