Spyware Question

Hi there, I am new to this site. I have Sony Vaio, running MS XP
I think I have spyware on my PC, but my Microsoft Beta 2 anti spyware has not detected,
neither has my AVAST security system.

My desktop is completey Black
A message has appeared (in yellow) saying:
warning Spyware detected on your PC
than below(in white)Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your pc
Than below (in red)view the list of top spyware removers here.

I cannot get rid of this advert, therefore I suspect a virus, can you help

NB - I am a slight technophobe, so please bear with me
