Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
That is a Windows file system error. Often indicative of a mechanical hard drive problem.
Who is the manufacturer of the hard drive? You might run their diagnostic.
You can also try running chkdsk from the Recovery Console.

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
That... sounds very bad. Would it be a good idea for me to get a replacement now?
I just got this hard disk before I came here... Last november? Sigh. I'm a little bit afraid to use Chkdsk because I faintly remember doing it once and ending up with a hard disk that couldn't be accessed at all...
GAH.

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
25 gigs is plenty of space for Ubuntu. You can even get away with 12 gigs to. But if the drive is flaky, Ubuntu will run flaky also. Have you ever tried out UBCD to try and see whats going on with that hardrive?

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
It's a Seagate ST350032.
Nope, have not used UBCD before. It seems... complicated?

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
You can try the Windows version but I would suggest the DOS version which requires a floppy drive or else creating an ISO CD.

I'm using the Windows version right now because I don't have an empty cd... Doing a Long Generic Test and the errors keep popping out...

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
The drive should be under full warranty.
You can send it back to the retailer or Seagate and get a new drive.

Re: Ubuntu Live USB HDD
I bought it back in Malaysia and the receipt is back there as well. Would you by any chance know more of Seagate's warranty procedure etc?
What will happen to the information though?
