Can Mac OS 9.2.2 Accomodate PC Software?

I was given a Mac with OS 9.2.2 and would like to teach my grand daughter to use it with Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing V.9 for Mac. However, I can't seem to find this version. I have purchased the Version 9 for a PC, but can't seem to get it to install. The guide book provides instructions for both PC and Mac platforms, but the instructions for Mac don't work.

Is there a way to install the PC version in the Mac? Or, does anyone know where to find Version 9 for Mac?

Thank You, Archbba@aol.com

From what I'm finding it should be able to. Go to this website for more information on using it. Does it say that is compatible for mac? Also I don't believe that there is any way to run a PC program on a mac. It has to be specific for mac. Its an entirely different operating system. Programs don't install and run the same way. I don't know much about mac but I do know that. Your software must say that it is for mac.

Re: Can Mac OS 9.2.2 Accomodate PC Software?

It never fails that Mac neophytes or PC people try to answer Mac questions that have easy answers. There are several products which allowe PowerPC's and beyond to run PC software on the Mac, but the most popular is Virtual PC by Connectix which has been around since before it was running Windows 95. For Mavis Beacon, I recommend getting Virtual PC 5 which is the last version that accommodated OS 9.x. I saw one today on eBay for about $15 plus shipping. You'll need at least 200MB of free space on your computer to accomodate the virtual hard drive and Windows software. With Virtual PC, you actually are running Windows on your Mac. For gaming, this can be a little slow, but for things like Mavis Beacon, it should work just fine.

Thumbs up Re: Can Mac OS 9.2.2 Accommodate PC Software?

Welcome to D-A-L Don!

As you can see we are mostly a PC/Windows/Linux based forum.

We try to answer everyone and sometimes just for the sake of a reply we might miss the mark.

Anyway it would be great to have someone like yourself to assist in any MAC questions and indeed if we had someone like you responding we might draw a wider MAC group.

I'd suggest you subscribe to this section of the forum as it would be wonderful to have an experienced MAC adviser here at D-A-L!
