Re: Okay i want to overclock my processor...

now i'm so obessed with overclocking. I'm testing this on my dads computer,

His speed was at 1.802ghz

Now its going at 1.880 lololol, can i push it more? or will it explode

280mhz is the max

Originaly it was at 200

it put it to 210

now i just pushed it to 215

Edit:: Sweeto Now its running at 1.936 ghz

Edit: Pushing it to 216. I want to get it to 2.ghz and ill be happy.

Re: Okay i want to overclock my processor...

Just make sure the CPU settings have a heat sensor and that it is on.

If so the computer should shut down prior to a meltdown.

The voltage usually is automatically tied to the CPU speed and this is what ups the heat.

If you set it too high it probably will not boot anyway.

I'd suggest using SpeedFan or CoreTemp (for a muticore).

Also then you can run either SuperPi or Prime95 which basically max out the CPU. During this process monitor your temperatures.

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Core Temp

Super PI Mod

Re: Okay i want to overclock my processor...

There is probably a sensor in the BIOS but it won't tell too much as there is no load on the CPU yet.

Most CPUs without load will be in the 30's or 40's.

60's under a full load.

70's are too hot. The shutoff would probably be around 75.

Depends a lot on the CPU.

CoreTemp only works on MultiCore CPUs.

Try SpeedFan.

Re: Okay i want to overclock my processor...

since i'm not admin on his computer i cannot install speedfan.

Is there a website that can tell me the temperature?

If not ill have to wait till my dad logs on and passes out.

Besides last time i saw the inside of my dads computer he had many fans. If i remeber.

Unless i'm thinking things.

But if i am correct, since he has alot of fans, i'm in the clear pushing 1.8ghz to 2.0?

I pushed it from 200mhz to 223, 2.007Ghz Ah yeah.

Re: Okay i want to overclock my processor...

Running tests like I pointed out is the way to test it.

You can also add 3DMark06 to that list.

I would not overclock someone else's computer unless you are in a position to replace it.

If you are upping the FSB and not simply the CPU multiplier you are also pushing the RAM beyond its usual limit.

Overclocking probably reduces the life span of the hardware.

Unless you are just into the numbers the only real test is using the computer.

In most cases you probably won't notice a difference in performance.
