computer froze while ipod said do not disconnect... couple problems

so my crappy computer froze while i was using the ashampoo ipod program and the ipod currently said 'do not disconnect.' since i have 98 i dont have itunes. now my computer wont recognize the ipod and it wont find new hardware to reinstall and there is NO ipod listed in the device manager. is it under another name? what do i do? this is the second computer this has happened to. i disconnected when it said not to b/c of crappy computers and i never ejected it. arrrrr.

so does anyone have any advice? help help.
