Re: upgrade modem
Do you REALLY want to upgrade to AOL 9.0?! It is much more demanding on your PC than AOL 6.0 so your system might not be fast enough. Many people that have upgraded to AOL 8.0 or 9.0 have complained that it makes their PC very slow. Do you know what spec your PC is? For example, is it a Pentium II 400MHz or similar or is it fairly new like a Pentium IV?
Replacing an internal modem means un-installing the old one, opening up the PC case and removing it, fitting a new one into an appropriate free slot on the motherboard and then installing the software and drivers for it. You will also need to re-configure AOL 6.0 to use the new modem. As far as upgrades go, it's one of the easier ones to tackle but only if you understand what kind of modem you need to buy, i.e. what slots you have available on your motherboard for it to fit into.
Incidentally, who told you that your modem is out of date? I can't think of any reason at all why that would be the case.
