Question xp/nero identifying 800mb cd as 700mb

hello..

I have xp, sp2
free space averaging 2gb on all my hard disk drives
nero 7

i have data of 720 MB waiting to be written, so i bought some 800 mb cds.

the built in utility by win xp , as well as nero insist the cd is having a 703 mb capacity.

is this something that can be remedied via some setting changes?

thx

Re: xp/nero identifying 800mb cd as 700mb

Both the Windows XP utility and Nero In-CD allow dragging and dropping files onto a CD through Windows Explorer. However, they only allow this to happen once they have formatted the disc. The formatting process significantly reduces the capacity of the CD so 703Mb available on an 800Mb CD is probably about right.

If you use Nero Burning ROM rather than In-CD or the Windows built-in CD-Writing support, then you'll be able to use the full 800Mb of a new CD.

Hope that helps
