3rd party

After using many of the 3rd party programs found on this site, I was wondering if there were anymore 3rd party programs that I could use to replace some of the windows default.

Re: 3rd party

There are lots of third-party programs to carry out operations like checking the hard disk for errors, defragmenting, checking the registry for errors, etc. Many of them come in bundled software suites like Norton Utilities (now replaced by Norton 360). The problem here is that, if you decide to install lots of third-party tools to speed your PC up, your PC actually slows down under the burden of having all of these extra programs installed!

You also have to be very careful when sourcing programs that mess about with your registry or claim to clear up your Internet history files, spyware, adware, etc. Many of these programs are either rubbish or they are adware / spyware themselves!

To be honest, I think that the drawbacks of installing lots of third-party tools like this outweighs the benefits. But, if you really, really want tools like this on your PC to automatically tidy your PC up for you, take a look at Norton 360 or Norton Utilities.

Hope that helps

Re: 3rd party

Clarify previous post.
If u have already installed them take them off from startup (Start-run-msconfig).
But my point is there thousands of utility companies beside Norton.
I'm using Acronis
As for organizing pc, i believe most important here is disk manager utility(tool for creating/resizing/deleting partition without data lose).
e.g i've 3 partitions
C - XP program files
D - my documents
E - i use it for Backup(keeps my data safe).
There is one already built in windows, but it deletes data on ur HDD while operation.
so, if don't care u can use it (Fdisk even converts FAT to NTFS).

Re: 3rd party

" (Fdisk even converts FAT to NTFS)."

This statement isn't accurate. Fdisk will not convert a partition. It will remove (destroy) a partition and create a new one of your choice (given the available choices which it provides that is) in the space which the old one occupied. DO NOT think it will convert, preserving data. It will not. Whenever fdisk is used to work with partitions, all data in a given partition is lost. (This does not apply when using the /STATUS switch with fdisk, or using the number four (4) option - Partition Information.)

absolutelly true, but why don't u read a bit back.
i've mention, that "IF U DON"T CARE ABOUT DATA U UR HDD HOLDS"
and also mentioned that it deletes data.
so i don't see any inaccuracy.

Re: 3rd party

I was referring solely to the partition conversion statement.

"(Fdisk even converts FAT to NTFS)"

It could be misleading. I realize the other content of your posting.
