HD failing, would like to export good files to new HD

Hello again!! Since you guys have been so helpful in the past, I come barring another problem. I have a 160 gig HD that I believe is soon to fail. About 8 weeks ago I had made my backup and recovery discs. My question is how can I transfer all pics, music, photos, AV and firewall software to the new HD. Still being a noob at some of the PC stuff, I would like this to be as painless as possible, so I am aware this will probably cost $. Any software apps that you guys could suggest would be helpful. Thanks again.

Re: HD failing, would like to export good files to new HD

You have many choices.

You could "clone" the drive. That is the only way you will carry over everything. You will also carry over all existing problems as well.

You "should" do a Clean Install on the new drive. After that you can slave your old drive in order to extract data.

All programs will need to be reinstalled.

Your hard drive manufacturer might have a "clone" tool otherwise there are some softwares both free and not free if you choose this option.

Have you run the manufacturers diagnostic on the old drive?

Hi seanr172

You could download Acronis True Image v11 trial "full working" for 15 days and use the clone function "see pic", i have used it and it works very well, and you don't have to buy ATI if you don't want to
