Sonar 5.0 Producer Edition - Audio Drivers

This is my first post. I recently installed Sonar 5.0 Producers edition and have been learning how to use it (steep learning curve). It's a great program but I am confused about something. My laptop has a Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio Soundcard and based upon an Everest Home Edition Computor Report, this is a WDM type device. I understand that to mean that is the driver type.

When I set Sonar to use WDM/KS drivers, it says everything over 44,100 sampling rate is not supported. But even sampling rates at 44,100 and below do not work. As far as I know I don't have ASIO drivers. But, I changed the Sonar Audio settings to MME (32 bit) and all sampling rates are enabled and everything works fine. I guess I don't understand why MME works and WDM doesn't given that this is a WDM device. I'm really new to this stuff and it's rather confusing. If anyone can explain this to me, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
