gimp vs gimpshop & plugins

Hi,
I recently started using the ace GimpShop. I also downloaded Gimp. These two programs appear very similiar at first glance.

I have discovered Script-Fu and plug-ins for GimpShop / Gimp.
There are so many out there. Do any of you reccomend some that come highly reccomended?
