I have experience with virtual pc's and with virtual pc so I'll try to help you. You have to provide the virtual (guest) pc with an internet connection. With the virtual pc console open & the virtual machine off click once on the entry for the virtual pc and then click on settings. Another box will open for all of the configurations for the virtual pc. Click on "Networking" on the left side & on the right side at the top you will see a pull down box beside "Number of network adapters:". If this isn't set to 1 set it to that but to keep things simple chose only that. Below that you have another pull down box that should have at least 3 entries other than not connected. One is "local only" (which won't help you in this case) & another is "shared networking (nat)". Choose shared networking first. This shares a connection between the virtual pc and the host pc through whatever device your computer is using to access the computer. Note that to add a networking adapter the guest machine must be shut down; not in saved state or on. The entry for your virtual pc on the console must say not running. If it is not shut down the box for the number of adapters will be shadowed out since you can't add this kind of hardware to a running machine, real or fake. Now boot into the virtual pc and try to access the internet. Vista will probably tell you that it found a networking device. The network adapter shows up as an ethernet connection so there is no need to enter the encryption information for your network.
If this doesn't work then on the adapter pull down box that you used before you will also have entries for each of the networking devices (such as your wireless card) that are recognized by Virtual PC. Chose the one for your networking card and try again--this entry will vary from computer to computer. Note that you do not need to power down the virtual pc to chose another adapter but only to add adapters. Then try to connect to the internet again by opening up a browser. Also on the host machine you must be able to access the internet and virtual pc must have permission to access the internet or this will not work. You should now be able to access the internet on the guest computer. Below is a screen shot with the settings box in the foreground & the virtual pc console in the background. The entries on the adapter list will be different from mine except for the local only & shared networking entries.
I hope that this helps. If it doesn't & you are sure that virtual pc can access the internet which it should be able to, then you might be having a problem with settings inside of the virtual pc & I'm not good enough with networking within vista to help you there.
