an undeletable line in Word

I received a series of Microsoft Word text files for editing, paginating and preparing for print.
In one of the files I found two parts of text with a heavy horizontal line between them, the whole page width long.
This line can not be deleted by any usual means. I tried to copy both parts of text and paste them into a new Word file, but to no avail. The line goes with the copied text, even when not selected first.
I tried also the “borders” options, but it doesn’t work.
Please advise how to get rid of the line.
Thanks

Re: an undeletable line in Word

That is a "cross out" for editing prior to deleting:

Select the text to be crossed out, Right click and select Font. In the 'Font' tab, go to the 'Effects' section below and check the 'Strikethrough' check box.

To remove this effect, un-check the check box.

Once the line is removed you should be able to edit or delete the text.

Re: an undeletable line in Word

no, it is not a strike through. the line clings to the last text line and does'nt mean empty lines.
I now copied the upper part of the txt (above the line) except the last text line and pasted into a new doc. then I wrote by hand the last line and added the lower part of the text.
this is the only way to receive a paginable document.
But still - where the line comes from and is't there any way to delete it?

I see. Sorry for the assumption.

Sounds like you've already done some searching but just to add:

Re: an undeletable line in Word

Hallo and thanks
For anybody who still has this problem - I just found the answer
Go to "borders and shading"
click on "custom" setting and then on "none" and the line disappears! Really.
Hurrah!
