Why can't I open any camera video clips?

I have camera video clips saved on my computer that I always use to beable to open, now none of them will open. I click on the video clip, a file download box comes up, reads, Name: Movie.wmv, Type: Unknown File Type. I click run, then a Windows box comes up and reads, Windows can not open this file Movie.wmv. This never happened before, they always opened. I tried opening them in other ways, Quick Time, Windows media Player, nothing. I had a Vundo Trojan one time a had to delete alot of things to get rid of it, could I have deleted something that I need to open these videos? Thanks......

What did you have to delete when you had that trojan? What OS do you have? What exactly is the error you get when you try to play it in media player? What version of media player do you have?

For best results please:
1) State your OS(s), any software involed in your problem, & any major updates (i.e. service pack, version, edition, service release, roll up, beta release, distribution [Linux], etc.) to your OS/software as applicable to your problem.
2) For hardware issues also provide your system information: RAM, processor, etc. in addition to your OS.
3) If you have more than one OS on your computer, how does your problem relate to your other OS(s)? This is especially important for hardware issues.
4) Provide as much detail as possible, being specific as even the most minute detail could help others help you solve the problem. Please tell us what you have tried.
5) Respond with the result(s) of the suggestion(s) from the other users to provide feedback, even if this only means saying "this worked!"

.wmv files are usually associated with Windows Media Player (WMP). If WMP isn't opening/playing the file, you may need to set the file association, or you may need codecs (re)installed.

Please answer the questions posed, and post any new questions you may have.

As an aside, (myself) finding WMP to be a resource hog and too controlling, I use Media Player Classic, from K-Lite. It plays many file types without a hitch.
