Looking for a free, reliable MOV converter

I'm working on backing up all my precious videos and photos to DVD, and i'd like to burn themto a disk... problem is, Windows DVD Maker doesn't recognize MOV files. (Not sure who to blame for that, either Apple for not releasing the format, or windows for refusing to recognize it either way)I'd like to convert my precious babies' videos so that they can be added to this easy program.not much room to spare on my laptop, so i'mnot really interested in downloading another DVD maker, although I'm listening if you have one of those that can run on vista and can work with MOV files and do the nice easy DVD with menus like Windows DVDvMaker.

Thanks so much in advance for your suggestions... I can program with the newbiest, but ask me to do any kind of stuff like this and I'm lost. I'd google it, but I want something I can trust recommended by people I can trust.
