DBPowerAmp's dMC is all you need for your format conversion needs:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

Free and its as easy as installing it then the appropriate codec from the list on their site and then right click to convert from any format to another. Both MP4 (.m4a) and Musepack (.mpc) are supported via codecs you can download.

Unhappy Re: damn .m4a and .mpc

Hi all,
Please help me. I have tried nearly everything now. I use the dreaded iTunes and yes all my files are in m4p format.

I want to get them to MP3 and i am struggling. I have renamed the file extension to m4a and iTunes and Quicktime still can play it so i know that the file has not become corrupt. I then open up dbPoweramp music converter to change it to MP3. I highlight the file and click on convert and i get an error straight away saying

The file 'D:\*********.m4a' could not be opened.

(Stars being the song title)

Everyone praises this software but i am yet to get it working. Please help as all i want to do is get songs on my phone. It's not for burning to CD as iTunes does that not a problem in it's own software.

I am having to resort to forums for this problem. No one else seems to have had the same error.

PLEASE HELP ME

Re: damn .m4a and .mpc

I have no idea what an .m4p is. Did you mean mp4?

If so then have you downloaded dbpoweramp and installed it? (looks like you have from your post)
Did you then go to the codec page and download the mp4 codec? Specifically the mp4 reader: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/dBp...aac-decode.exe ?

If you did then when you right click on an .mp4 or .m4a file do you get a context sensitive menu item titled "Convert to"? If you follow that menu item is one of the options mp3?

For your information, in iTunes settings you can change what format you rip your CDs to. One of the options is mp3. you can find it under Edit -> Preferences -> Importing

Re: damn .m4a and .mpc

When i download a file from itunes it saves it on my computer as a m4p. This is the format that itunes uses.

That why every one has problems. It's becuase it is an AAC file but with personal information about who downloaded it. This is to prevent copyrighting.

Re: damn .m4a and .mpc

I see. You won't be able to use a converter to bypass the copyrighting I'm afraid.
