UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP_M (1000007f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 80042000
Arg3: 00000000
Arg4: 00000000

Re: Game crashing

Looks like you have a bad stick of RAM.

Although the corruption could also be from the Graphics Card's memory or the CPU.

If I were testing I would try a new stick of RAM. If the problems persist I would try a new Graphics Card. If the problem persists I would try a new processor.

If I read your specs correctly you have one stick of 512 RAM.

Your board: http://www.asrock.com/product/product_p4vt8%2B.htm

Can handle:
Memory Max. 3GB
3 x DDR DIMM slots,
DDR 400/333/266

This scan will fill you in on more details:
http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.asp

Considering the warranty I would take it back unless you have an interest in learning do it yourself computer building.

Either way I believe you have some hardware that needs replacing.

Question Re: Game crashing

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been revising for an exam. I've tried replacing the RAM but computer still crashes. I'm wondering if it could be a problem with the processor rather than the graphics card as the computer will blue screen if I try to scan for viruses or try disk cleanup or defrag. Is there any way I can test this without having to buy a new processor? Is it fairly straightforward to replace then processor?
Thanks
Jo

Re: Game crashing

Replacing the processor is straightforward. Details in the manual:

http://www.asrock.com/Drivers/Manual/P4VT8P_UM.pdf

For a fairly new computer this all seems mysterious tho. I would run with the case open & verify that the fans are running well. Also see if you notice any extreem heat off of the CPU. Try a defrag & see if you notice a major heat shift.

& don't forget the warranty!

Any new dumps?

Re: Game crashing

I've manage to defrag hard drive by continuing to use internet whilst defrag going on (if I leave it to defrag then after a while it just goes to blue screen) but I still can't get through disk cleanup without it freezing or crashing. I've managed to do everything but compress the old files on disk clean up.
Following is info from blue screen:

Re: Game crashing

Another indication of Memory Corruption. Which test did you run? MemTest?

http://www.memtest86.com/

If not I would suggest it. This appears to be a hardware memory issue.

Are you sure that you don't want to utilize your warranty?

Re: Game crashing

Did you use MemTest earlier or the Windows Test? Is the floppy set to first boot? Did you format the floppy first? Or create an MS-DOS boot disk prior to putting MemTest on it? I can't recall offhand whether you need to create the boot disk first but you may need to. Insert floppy: right click under My Computer: Format: create MS-DOS boot disk. Them put MemTest on this.

Just to clarify you have already tried 2 different sticks of RAM with the same issues?

Also have you run check disk?

start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
