'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

Hi,

'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

This message popped up when I tried to log into the game Maple Story.

I've logged into the Maple Story website and tried to follow the advice to no avail. I suck at computers.

I know this topic has been repeated countless times but none of the suggestion seem to work for me so please bear with me. Help?

Many thanks.

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

Have you ever played Maple Story on this computer?

That error indicates either:

1) You do not have the necessary hardware

2) You do not have the necessary drivers

3) You do not have the necessary DirectX

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

Hi,

Yes, I've played MS before on this computer. However, think it has been reformatted since the last time I played. Also, ever since the geniune Windows XP CD has been installed, I am unable to play.

1) What sort of hardware would I require?

2) Drivers? Like?

3) Yes, I've the latest DirectX.

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

If you have re-installed XP you need to re-install your graphics drivers.

What is the make and model of your graphics card?

If you do not know look in the Device Manager under Display adapters

> right click My Computer > click Manage > click Device Manager > click + next to Display adapters

The manufacturer's web site will have the drivers to download.

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

You can try going to start Run...

& type dxdiag

Then click the Display tab

If no Device is listed then you need to either open the computer to ID the graphics card or else just try either ATI or nVidia.

If the drivers do not fit they will admit it.

The fact that there is no device in the device manager suggests that you have no drivers installed.

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

There's this sentence at the bottom of the page.

'Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.'

Does that mean there's no device??

Open the computer, what do you mean by that?

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

I would suggest trying to load the latest drivers from ATI and if they are rejected try nVidia. Or visa versa.

By opening the computer I meant getting a screw driver (or whatever it takes) and opening the case in order to locate and ID your graphics card.

Re: 'Failed in finding proper screen mode for GR2d'

Hi, I'm at the nVidia website, but have no idea what to download. I've already opened my computer, you know what?

I don't even know how a graphic card looks like or where it's located.
