Sims 2 Help please! ""the application has crashed it will now terminate"

So, I've recently installed a legal copy of Sims 2 onto my laptop. I'm running on...

Windows XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Dell Latitude D620
Genuine Intel(R) CPU
T2500 @2.00GHz
2.00GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM
31GB of harddrive left

I think my video card thingy is called "plug and play monitor on mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family"

I don't understand why I can play the Sims 2 for a good 10-30 minutes only and then the whole thing crashes. My laptop is fairly new (1 yr old). Every time I play, I clean up most of the hidden processes, but that still has no effect.

all help is welcomed. thanks.

It's not overheating. I place a giant fan near my laptop every time...
