Sims 2 Help 'Your application has crashed and will now terminate'

My Sims 2 game will not let me play for more than 10 minutes, without this messgae appearing. This only started happening a couple of days ago, after playing on 2 expansion packs and 1 stuff pack for nearly half a year! I recently did a scan becuase there was a virus on my computer, I don't know if that might have anything to do with this problem. Please help!
