Maple Story "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d"

Hi, I've just downloaded the MapleStory game client onto my new HP Mini 110 1025TU PC, but when i try to run the game, I get a message saying that it has "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d".

I have looked through the other threads on this but am unable to find a solution that works for me.

My device manager displays "Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family" (definitely the latest version) as my Display Adapter. DD and D3D are enabled and have been tested, they work fine.

Is it because my screen is only 10 inches?

What should I do?
Please help!

Red face Re: Maple Story "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d"

Hi ,

Screen resolution in gaming is independent of screen resolution used for normal non - game pc usage . I run a dual monitor set of a 21" + 22" Samsung syncmasters . These are set at 1680 x 1050 pixels . You'll notice when booting a game disc the screen blanks and the screen resolution sets itself as default game display which is almost always different than that of your monitor resolution . Say if I'm playing CnC 3 the game sets screen resolution to 1024x768 , which is normally optimal resolution for that specific game . On a 10" screen you are going to have a very limited variety of avaliable screen resolution . I would think that the game is trying to set an in game resolution that your screen can't adjust to .

Most games have video options that the screen resolution can be changed , windowed , etc .
Can you actually get the game menu to appear or does the error message display without access ?

Wink Re: Maple Story "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d"

Just a thought that came to me :

Don't know if this might specifically be a solution to your problem .

I remember when trialing the RC of Vista on an old system with a 19" CRT Viewsonic monitor . The screen refresh rate being used on the main install of XP wouldn't allow Vista to boot , giving the error message " screen frequency too high " - try having a play around with the screen refresh rates too . Remember to have hidden any refresh rates your monitor cannot use ( this is a safegaurd as using non regulated screen refresh rates on a monitor not designed for the specific rate set can cause damage to the monitor ) .

Hi,

thanks, but because I am a total noob, I don't really get what you're saying.

The message is displayed without access.
and how do I change the refresh rates?

Re: Maple Story "failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d"

Hi ,

Screen Refresh Rate > right click on desktop > click properties > ( XP = Settings ( Vista = personalise )

In xp the display tweak box - click settings , advanced and on monitor tab option making sure to tick the checkbox " hide modes that this monitor cannot display " ( Monitor damage safegaurd ) . Set this to the lowest value avaliable ( value defined in Mhz ) . I used to run XP in 75+ Mhz and Vista's graphics display would not run .

Also follow the above and set your screen resolution as low as possible 800 x 600 pixels is manufacture's set standard - this will allow most games to run with "no in - program " alteration .

Also make sure you have a java platform and up to date flash - these can affect the animated intro to some games
