Shutting down and resetting itself

For the past couple of months my laptop (just over a year old) has become quite the nuisance when playing WoW. It decidedly freezes up, screen goes blank, shuts down, and restarts a few seconds later with the resolution WAY lower than it's supposed to be set at. It's not overheating, I've tried reinstalling windows in case the OS was corrupted, and I KNOW it's not a virus.

I'm at my wits end, and no one I've talked to seems to have a clue as to what is going on. Any ideas? :[

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

How do you know it is not overheating?

What is the exact make and model of the laptop?

What is the OS?

Have you checked the Event Viewer and shut off Auto Restart?

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

I have duel fan underneath it, and the laptop is not warm to the touch when it occurs, I've checked.

Windows Vista 64bit, HP dv9000 laptop.

And I'm not quite THAT computer savvy, so no I haven't checked the event viewer or turning off auto-restart. I'm not sure where those are.

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

I turned off the auto restart, and in the event log the only thing i found that pertains is "The previous system shutdown at 8:10:04 PM on 10/16/2009 was unexpected." Or whatever date/time it occurred..

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

Try your game again.

If it fails it should freeze on a Blue Screen.

Please write out the specific error numbers and error text on that page.

Here is another scan you can try as well:

Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

Well it didn't take long, but it failed to blossom fruit. Instead of shutting down and resetting, all I got was a black screen. No message, no blue screen, nothing. :\

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

Could you post the verbatim "WhoCrashed" error please.

Just as another test do you have the same issue if you run wired?

Re: Shutting down and resetting itself

On Thu 10/22/2009 7:03:41 PM your computer crashed
This was likely caused by the following module: bcmwl664.sys
Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0xFFFFFA600300000C, 0x2, 0x0, 0xFFFFFA6002492A51)
Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\bcmwl664.sys
product: Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver
company: Broadcom Corporation
description: Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver

I don't use wired since I'm on the third floor and we can't run wires due to the construction type of our house.
