I paq RX3715 crashing
My boyfriend has an ipaq rx3715, He had a slight accident with it and cracked the screen, but other than that it was working fine, he took the back of and had a look to see how hard it would be to fit a new screen then hard reset it, but ever since has been having problems.
He has since received his new screen and fitted it, but it still having problems!
He uses is to store all his appointments pictures etc, but mainly he uses it as Sat nav as he does a lot of traveling.
He has hard reset it a few times and restored everything from a back up, and can run tomtom sat nav without Ariel and get it to demo the route, no problems, he can play a little poppy ball game he has on it with no problems, but...
When he gets in car, turns on blue tooth Ariel, then turns on tomtom, and connects the pda to the Ariel, within a few min the screen goes white, the hard reset sequence starts and then just as it is about to finish it does it again, and again, and again until he unplugs it and soft resets it.. then he gets the factory start up screen and it stops resetting... but he has lost all his data! ( usually leaving him completely lost as he now has no sat nav!!)
Can anyone help?

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
Whats the OS previously installed on there?
Seems as though maybe he messed about with one of the components or current damage which is very easy i.e electrostatic damage.

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
He dosent know.. the best i got out of him was " windows" unfortunatly hes on the other side of the country so i cant check myself!!!
Hes convinced he put it back together propperly, and everything is where it was. so it sounds like he didnt ground himself and its static that has done the damage!!
Do you think it is beyond repair?
*edit* apparently its running on windows pocket pc 2003 pro

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
Hmm. I don't know to be honest as the version I had was perfectly fine after the repairs I undertook. I took precaution of grounding myself before touching anything incase a current passes through and destroys a component. If he can start it and run a game otherwise, there won't be any damaged components. Its maybe somewhere with the voltages....
I'd check my battery first if I was you.
Then check by running the PDA without adding the bluetooth for a while. See if it runs OK as that with TomTom on but not with the aerial attached.
Thats all I can say at the moment I'm afraid
BTW do you charge it in the cig socket while in-car?

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
his docking station for the car also charges it, so yes its charged through the cig socket.
I'll pass on what you said and see if it helps, and will have a look at it myself when i see him later in the week
Thankyou

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
Also try not charging it and running TomTom with and without the bluetooth aerial. It may cut down better to the source of the problem

Re: I paq RX3715 crashing
Sorry for the delayed response, He finally took my advice, and fixed it!!
Took it apart again checked all the connections and they were fine, so i continued to suggest he didn't restore the files and see if it worked, which he eventually gave up hope and tried, so did a heard reset, but DIDNT restore it, I had my suspicions there was something dodgy in his restore file. So instead he manually copied across the stuff that he still needed. and BINGO its been fine ever since!
Seems like after all that there was a corrupted file in his backup!
