new fonts for GIMP - problems!

I've downloaded the zip file from dafonts, unzipped, added the font to my main Fonts file, but the damned thing won't show up in the Gimp Fonts list.
Can anyone help, please?
The font came in OT and TT type formats, I added both to the main directory.
I've restarted Gimp several times but still this font it does not appear!

You probably need to go into Gimp preferences and repoint it to the fonts folder so it refreshes whats available in there.

I've tried that too TD. Or I thought I had, anyhow, following instructions from another website. Could you explain it to me? Your version of the path might be easier for me to follow.

In the meantime I figured a workaround that probably makes the job I had to do a little easier anyway.
1: Create text in Open Office (or Word), save as .doc to My Documents.
2: Move to My Pictures, change file type to .bmp.
3: Open in Paint and go to town! Which in my case, meant filling block letters, mostly.

Final post.
The solution I described above was less than perfect, however, repeated attempts to load the new fonts into GIMP failed. I trawled the internet in search of advice, nothing I found worked.
Giving it one last try today I uninstalled both GIMP and the GTK Runtime Environment. Downloaded the latest versions of both, installed, and hey presto! All the new fonts are available.
I did try this once before, but I uninstalled GIMP only. Perhaps taking out both programs did the trick - ?
