Post How to change PS3 NAT type 3 to type 2

Hi guys, I'm looking into this for a friend, his PS3 says that his NAT type is 3, while mine is type 2... Is it possible to change the NAT type 3 to NAT type 2??

He's using a Netopia router, model number2247-02. And the router uses a wired connection.

I've looked at a few sites, and we've done everything step by step, and nothing seems to wanna change. Any help would be appreciated...

Hey, we tried it, and it still doesn't work. We we're able to play Team Fortress, but Call of Duty 5 just wont work. Any suggestions on to why this is happening?

Re: How to change PS3 NAT type 3 to type 2

What does it say exactly? That's weird why it wouldnt work...

Have you tried restarting both the PS3 and router for the settings to take effect? In my router if im trying to block a certain site it wont actually block it unless it's restarted. (maybe the same with port forwarding..?)

And do you have Universal Plug and Play (i think it's called that) enabled or disabled? I know for COD4 on my PS3 my game just refuses to work if i have it enabled, try playing around with that.

Re: How to change PS3 NAT type 3 to type 2

Behold it is I, the said friend crisps is refering to in the previous posts!

Basically I can play multiplayer games fine on my PS3. It's just I can't play with friends and I presume that it's the Nat3 thats causing it.

So heres what I've done to cure my nat problem with no success;

1. I gave my ps3 a static ip address
2. Signed into psn with this address.
3. accessed router, went to Nat settings, clicked on static nat settings, my new ip came up so i selected it and clicked done.
4. Added these 7 ports and assigned them to my new static Ip

TCP port 80
TCP port 443
TCP port 5223
UDP port 3478-3479
UDP port 3658-3659

I then lowered the firewall settings on my router to low, ticked upnp and disabled media servers on my ps3.

This was supposed to work but didn't.

Does anyone see if i left something out? Or could my problem be caused by something else?

Thanks
