Keep me signed in, remember me, not working...spyware/adware? (Resolved)

Greetings, new to the group, and hoping that I can finally get to the root of this annoying problem. I've been to newsgroups and forums and so far have not been able to get answers that will clear this.

The "Sign me in automatically" and "remember me" boxes that appear when logging in to sites with a login name and password do not work, or will work for a short period of time requiring another sign in. I have run SpyBot, AdAware, BulletProof on this computer but still have the problem. I'm attaching a log from HijackThis with hopes that you will be able to spot something that the software I'm using has missed. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Dave Bauer

Hello Spud, thanks for your speedy reply. I followed your instructions and here is the new log I ran after running SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware Se Pro. I suppose I should have mentioned in the first post that I'm using WinXP Pro SP2 on a system with a multi boot, (Win98 on C, WinXP on D and my main OS WinXP Pro on F) I'm not sure if this is a concern or not.

Re: Keep me signed in, remember me, not working...spyware/adware?

No spyware there.

What I have noticed in there is:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CookiePatrol] F:\PROGRA~1\PESTPA~1\CookiePatrol.exe

CookiePatrol, which is a part of PestPatrol. This could possibly be rejecting cookies and/or erasing them after a certain amount of time. This would cause the errors.

Re: Keep me signed in, remember me, not working...spyware/adware?

Hello Owen,

Geez I embarassed, I didn't think that cookie patrol was loading when I didn't have pest patrol running. I just checked the log and sure enough it's been deleting the cookies on some sort of schedule. I've disabled it and will try if for a day or two and see if it's cleared up my problem just to make sure and will post back. Thanks for your reply.

Regards,
Dave

Thumbs up Re: Keep me signed in, remember me, not working...spyware/adware?

Greetings!

I have not had a problem with the login since stopping Pest Patrol's "Cookie Manager". I do believe that you can mark this thread closed.

I want to thank you, Owen and Spud, for your help. After weeks of trying to get answers from Microsoft, Microsoft Newsgroups, and numerous other Forums you guys managed to hit the nail on the head with just one thread.

With sincere T H A N K S ,
Dave
