Hotmail blank page, ebay kaput as well

Hi guys

I need a bit of advice with a couple of problems I'm having.

My computer has been a little weird for a while - seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. Switched to broadband a couple of weeks back and since then have noticed it taking longer and longer to download pages. Finally this afternoon, i discover I can no longer access my ebay account - error message telling me that there's something up with my browser settings - and when I log into my hotmail account it's just a blank page.

My partner usually has AVG run pretty much every day but we had a few problems after the installation of v7 and we had our first scan two days ago. Scan this morning reported everything fine - did a scan after everything went wonky this afternoon and it quarantined three files as Trojan.

After chat to brother discovered the firewall hadn't been enabled after installing the software for our broadband connection, which we've now done. Also downloaded Ad-Aware, which threw up tons of stuff, and Spybot, which found a few more things. I still have the same problems with hotmail and ebay though...


I've followed the recommendations for posting a HighJackThis log and have pasted it below.

Hi and welcome to DAL


Can you please move HijackThis to it's own folder on your C: (example: C:\HijackThis). The program makes important backups which can be accidently lost when running from it's current location. If anything goes wrong with your fix, you may need these backups to restore your machine to it's previous state.

To do this, go to My Computer (Windows key+e)
Double click on C:
then right click and select New > Folder
Name it HijackThis and unzip/move your copy of HJT to it for future use.


Download and install Crap Cleaner for later use.

Could you please download DelDomains.zip and unzip it to your desktop.

Right click the DelDomains.inf file inside and click Install, making sure
Internet Explorer is closed. You won't see anything happen, it performs a
silent process. Reboot your PC and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to
re-install the protection both provide. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and 're-enable all protection'. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.



Run HJT again and checkmark the boxes next to the following:-

Now close ALL windows & browsers and click FIX CHECKED



Reboot into Safe Mode.
Tap F8 repeatedly when your machine starts to boot up.
Select 'Safe Mode' from the options that appear.


Set Windows to 'Show all files & folders'.
Click Start > My Computer> Tools> Folder Options>
On the View tab make sure that you:-
Select 'Show Hidden Files & Folders'
Uncheck 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.
Uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'.
Click OK.



Delete the following file in bold:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gah95on6.exe


Open Crap Cleaner and run it. Note: This will remove all login cookies unless individually retained via Options> Cookies.


Reboot and run an online virus scan at TrendMicro and RAV. Let them fix/remove anything they find.



Then post a fresh log in this thread.

Just noticed that the file you asked me to delete (O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gah95on6] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe) is still there....I definately deleted that!?

Please switch off Spybot's TeaTimer until we get you clean.

Remove this one with HijackThis:

Then click on Start > Run and type cleanmgr into the run box.

Just to let you know I've managed to find a way to access my hotmail account. Changing the security and privacy settings didn't work, neither did restoring default browser settings. In the end I downloaded Netscape and used that instead.

Thanks for all of your help getting me clean - it was much appreciated.
