xp randomly restarts
Someone please guide me in the right direction.

XP either shows me an error message saying that a serious error has occurred and windows will shut down in 59 seconds or it just restarts on its own every few days.

Occaisionally after it reboots, it says that the CPU setting have changed and i have to go into the BIOS to simply exit without saving changes for it to boot up.

Ive run adaware, spybot, and AVG without finding any problems.

I would appreciate any help.

The error message said that the shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM and that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) experienced an error.

Re: xp randomly restarts
When the system begins to shut down, go to Start> Run and type shutdown -a and press Enter to abort the Shut Down. This will help if you are half way through my instructions.

Go to this page and click Check My PC For Infection to run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. Let it remove infections found. Post back and tell me the result.
