Things are running OK from a Spyware standpoint. However, I installed windows SP2 recently and now get an error message on initial startup concerning 'Gearsec' .... I submitted the problem to DAL and am now in sending/receiving emails with jephree trying to fix the problem - no luck so far!

Re: Hijack This Log

Hiya,
If you fix this entry using Hijack This, see if your GearSec problems go away:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "D:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Reboot after you have done that and see if it works.

Re: Hijack This Log

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes (if you have it installed), Quicktime and Power Quests Drive Image (if you have it installed).

Success - I uninstalled Drive Image and so far the error message has gone so Gearsec must be part of Drive Image but now I can't run backups! I really want/need to backup as my pc got badly trashed by a virus about a year ago and I lost lots of data so as a result I now backup to avoid a repeat. Hopefully you can advise me what to do to solve the problem now the cause is known.

Re: Hijack This Log

Reinstall Drive Image now. There might have been an error with gearsec so reinstalling will hopefully get rid of the error.

Yes gearsec is related to Drive Image. It is also related to Quicktime and Itunes. Its an engine for burning music to disks in Itunes and burning backups to disk in Drive Image.
