Unwanted Blue Toolbar in IE

Hi,

I've had a lot of problems with Spyware recently - I've managed to get rid of almost all of it, except for an annoying blue toolbar which keeps installing itself at the bottom of the screen (I think it's a LOP toolbar?) Another problem is my IE homepage keeps changing itself to "about.blank". My Hijack This log is below:

Hello,Rachel & Welcome

Download CW-Shredder at the link below:
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe

Download SpSeHjfix here:
http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix112.zip
Save it to the desktop and then right click a blank part of desktop & select new folder, call it spfix. Unzip the file into that folder

Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.
Run 'SpSeHjfix'. and click on "Start Disinfection".
When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage

Now run the CWShredder - Hit The FIX button!

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and the log that was created by 'SpSeHjfix'.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

This item here any idea what it is i find no info on this if you have

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Teamshimlistmedia] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HoldAtomTeamShim\love software.exe

This here if not using as your Start Page fix it

Hey,Rachel

Ok as far as i can till this one here is a Trojan

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HoldAtomTeamShim\love software.exe

like i said above kill it but do this here before you fix & kill

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
software.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

now i will stay here for you but not to long

However, I'm a little concerned that there seem to be some more HKLM entries this time (which look like spywares I had previously tried to get rid of! Things like "pcsync" etc) what do you think, should I be concerned? Testing IE, the about:blank issue has returned.

Thanks,
Rachel

Thumbs up Re: Unwanted Blue Toolbar in IE

Hey,Rachel

The application Messenger Plus is an add-on. It is not written by Microsoft. It installs spyware, LOP to be exact. Try and see if you can uninstall Messenger Plus via Add\remove Programs, and then if you still want to use it, reinstall it after we have cleaned your computer. Then choose not to install the Sponsor. If you are able to do this, then scan with HJt again in normal mode if possible, and post another log.

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
WINFRW.EXE
istsvc.exe
farmmext.exe
bmncmm.exe
OptionLoud.ex e

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
IST Service

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows System Configuration] C:\WINDOWS\WINFRW.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sp] rundll32 C:\DOCUME~1\Rachel\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll,DllInstall
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [farmmext] C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bmncmm] c:\windows\system32\bmncmm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DOESTOOL] C:\DOCUME~1\Rachel\APPLIC~1\ChinBeep\OptionLoud.ex e

Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
C:\WINDOWS\WINFRW.EXE<---This file
C:\DOCUME~1\Rachel\LOCALS~1\Temp\<--Clean out this folder do not delete the folder it's self
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\<---This folder if uninstalled as said above
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\<---This folder
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe<---This file
C:\DOCUME~1\Rachel\APPLIC~1\ChinBeep\OptionLoud.ex e<---This file

now before doing the above get this prog here to clean the PC
run it clean then do the above fix

popular programs for doing this, is a freeware program Called Crap Cleaner. Crap Cleaner is a single utility that lets you clear your Cookies, Internet Explorer History, Empty the Recycle Bin, Uninstall Programs, Clear Usage Tracks and much more. As well as this, it has an Advanced Registry Scanner. Using a program like this is one of the easiest methods.

after doing that do this here

click start->settings->control panel->internet options->programs tab->RESET WEB SETTINGS

That will change everything back to defaults (M$)......

Change your homepage and search engines to whatever you wish and reset your pc.

When it boots back up, open IE and see if the page stays the way that you set it.

also do this here

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

then see how it is & show us new logfile

Re: Unwanted Blue Toolbar in IE

I've done as instructed!! Seems to be running ok now, IE seems to be fixed (touch wood!) I downloaded Messenger Plus 3 by mistake about 3 months ago, and it seems to have been the root of all my problems...I thought I had got rid of it but obviously not - hopefully it is now gone once and for all. I just wanted to double check with you that some of these HKLM entries are legitimate: PCSync, CTHelper and Hotkeysvc all look a bit suspect. I'm uncomfortable deleting them if I don't know what they are though... In the meantime I seem to be fixed, so thanks for all your help.

Rachel
