can not complete a virus scan

hello,,,, every time i try to run a virus scan, my system shuts down.

how can i post a hijack this log? thanks thanks -sloane

Well i'm happy to say as for the logfile i don't see anything
Try this here please.

Go for free online Virus scans here:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

First:
Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop

Then lit us know how the PC is doing.

hi... thank so much for your help ! i REALLY apreciate it. so ... i tried both programs (trend micro, and ewido) and still would get shut down before the scan finished. trend micro did find "java_bytever.a" ... so im trying to get rid of that before trying another scan. and... : ) ive been having a really hard time COMPLETELY uninstalling mcafee security center, in order to install a new virus protection program. any help with that would be very much apreciated... (ive done the "uninstall" in the program file, removed from the add/remove program list... deleted mcafee in the registry under "hkey local machine / software / mcafee.com) ?????

hi.... so, yesterday i was able to finish a full virus scan with house call, after "removing" the java_bytever.a with house call. then i tried to run the ewido scan and it shut down five minutes into it. after that my computer would not boot up and i decided to leave it for the night.

so... now i have no idea. and i currently have no anti-virus software running on my computer. any recomendations on anti-viral programs? the trend micro?

Well i am happy to say i don't see anything in this logfile

so try this please

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop.
Unzip/extract the files inside preferable to C:\ < a new folder.
Disconnect from the internet, if you use an always on internet connection unplug it.
Let your PC be idle for 15 minutes !!
Open the folder and run the FindIt's.bat and wait for a text to open, it will take awhile be patient, post the results please.

If you get an error similar to:
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application...etc etc'

now as for a Virus scanner just goto the Software update forum
right here there are a ton of software in that forum
