SearchToolbar Removal

Hello,
I've got a toolbar I can't get rid of in IE6. When I right click in the toolbar area, it shows up as "SearchToolbar". But I cannot uncheck it to disable it because all of the listed toolbars are grayed out. Below is the HijackThis log. Please tell me how to 1) get rid of this toolbar and 2) restore my IE toolbar enable/disable menu.

Thank you very much.

Hello,leppard87 & Welcome

Disable Spybot Resident

Please disable Spybot S&D’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on System Startup icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Click Allow Change box.

Then, check next to the computerclock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

Reboot the computer.

Then do this here

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
WareOut.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
WareOut

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

These 3 items here did you place them in your HOSTS file
if not fix them
O1 - Hosts: 65.120.116.172 mini.aimster.com
O1 - Hosts: 65.120.116.173 lite.aimster.com
O1 - Hosts: 65.120.116.174 www.aimster.com

This can go
O1 - Hosts: 127.127.127.127 elite

O2 - BHO: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VIQAO.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VIQAO.DLL

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WareOut] "C:\Program Files\WareOut\WareOut.exe"

Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VIQAO.DLL<---This file
C:\Program Files\[b]WareOut\<---This folder

Then do a reboot & do this here

Go for free online Virus scans here:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

after doing the above till us how the PC is & show us new logfile.

Re: SearchToolbar Removal

Thank you very much for the help.

The toolbar is removed. I followed your instructions and scanned using Housecall and Panda online tool, and deleted anything they could not automatically delete.

The only remaining thing is that I still cannot select/deselect the toolbars when I right click in the toolbar area in IE and Windows Explorer.

I would like to mention that before I first posted here, Spybot removed a virus called Trojan.Mitglieder. Don't know if that helps any.

Anyway, here is the latest HijackThis log...

Re: SearchToolbar Removal

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Here is what is there:
CDRAutoRun
NoBandCustomize
NoDriveTypeAutoRun

System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
This directory doesn't exist in my registry.

I am also getting a popup window I've never gotten before. I don't believe it is from Microsoft. Title bar reads: Winows Security Center.
[IMG][/IMG]

Thank you again for all of your help. I appreciate it very much.

Red face Re: SearchToolbar Removal

Hey,leppard87

First sorry for the late reply my eye's not doing to good today
now here is what i need you to do for me please.

do a file Search for these here

C:\WINDOWS\System\CISVVC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System\NTFSNLPA.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System\RDSNDIN.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system\drv2cltr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system\hybsys32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system\loadctr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\csqjo.exe

if you find them lit me know

& do this here

Launch Notepad (not wordpad), and copy and paste the Bolded below into a new text file.
Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: All files (*.*) and save it on your Desktop.

Quote:
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ruins]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\WareOut]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WareOut]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WareOut]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoBandCustomize"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion]
"Disabled"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SearchToolbar]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SearchToolbar]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Urls]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"conc"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]
"{08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E}"=-
Now double-click on the fixme.reg file you saved and click on the Yes button when it asks if you would like to merge the information. Once you get a successful message delete fixme.reg.
