Pop ups and warning message

I am currently getting a lot of pop-ups, even with a blocker on. I am also getting a "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message as well as getting a warning maybe every 30 mins saying as follows;

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overrum detected!

Program: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated"

I have run Norton, Spybot and AdAdware and found nothing. Here is my Hijack this log:

It wouldn't let me delete the file as it said it was being used by another program or person, plus I am now getting a message to re-install Norton Internet Security.

Would a system restore help?

Cool Re: Pop ups and warning message

Hi,Dave63

No please hold off on doing a System Restore for now try this

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dvtmsft.dll

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot answer Yes then just lit
it do a reboot.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

now if the above file still will not delete try it from Safe Mode using KillBox.

Re: Pop ups and warning message

Killbox comes up with an error saying "This file cannot be deleted" both normally and in safe mode.

Still getting quite a few pop ups and the C++ overrun message as well as an error message on start up telling me to uninstall and re-install Norton Internet Security, even though it is still working fine.

Is this file the key to getting rid of all this and what exactly is it?

Any more ideas?

Red face Re: Pop ups and warning message

Hey,Dave63

Try doing this first

let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u dvtmsft.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

Then try KillBox again if no go do the rkfiles.zip i posted

Download/Save this zipped file a reporting tool
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the files inside to a folder of its own.
It has to be ran in safe mode for it to work correctly.
safe mode: Instructions here

Open the folder and run the RKFILES.BAT, sit back and wait untill its finished, when
it is finaly finished a text will open. close it.
Make a log with hijackthis while still in safe mode.

Restart back to a normal windows session:

Post the text located here C:\Log.txt please and that hijackthis log made in safe mode.
