Do you have a program called 'The Search Accelerator' installed? If you aren't sure, take a look in Add/Remove Programs. If it's in the list, remove it (even if it's a legitimate program, it's not installed properly).

You have at least 2 worms on the PC. TaskMan4.exe is part of a backdoor worm called RBot, "backdoor" meaning that it literally opens up a back door into your PC that it then tries to allow hackers to get into.

Reboot and run HiJackThis again. If you still have the following entries in the log file, select them to be fixed:

Once that is completed, close HiJackThis.

Then search your hard disk for all instances of the following files and delete them (including emptying the Recycle Bin):

Fqqrs.exe
svcnet.exe
a folder called "W"
Taskman4.exe

While you're at it, delete the contents of the following folders if they exist:

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Winnt\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\your profile name\Local Settings\Temp

Once that's done, reboot and run HijackThis again to make sure that none of the above entries are still present.

Once that's done, you need to run Windows Update and get all of the security fixes available. Some of these problems could have got onto your PC by exploiting known problems in Windows that you might not have patched up.

Finally, make sure your PC is well protected by enabling a secure, updated anti-virus package and firewall. Those that you've got installed at the moment aren't picking up what they're supposed to (unless the problems were already there before you got the software and you haven't done a full scan on your system). I would recommend getting Norton Internet Security 2005, which is a bundle of anti-virus, firewall, parental control features, anti-spam and privacy control.

Hi, and thanks for the very quick useful reply. I have done everything so far apart from searching for those files. Im doing it at the moment, but its taking more that a few hours for some reason to search for one file! After running for 1 1/2 hrs, it hasnt found anything. Ive deleted those errors in hijackthis and deleted the temp files. Can you search for more than one thing in the search program? I'll keep you posted!

Oh and 'The Search Accelerator' wasn't found in the Add/remove program. I couldnt find it so I couldn't uninstall it

Its ok, no need to reply back, I got the problem sorted out and fixed, all that was needed was a good virus check, ie NORTON ANTIVIRUS, sorted everythin out.

I've only just got in from work and I'm really tired so I might be missing something but your log looks clean to me. Glad to hear you were subsequently able to do a full virus sweep with NAV and it's all sorted now. Thanks for letting us know
