MModem driver cannot be installed.
This is possibly a virus problem as well as a modem driver problem. I use dial-up and my system is Windows XP on a Compaq S4020WM.
I can't get on the internet because the system can no longer find my modem. The internal Compaq Support file diagnosed the problem as a missing modem driver and advised to re-install it from the already self-contained one. The attempts always fail-- without explanation being given.
So I can't re-install the modem driver either because a) I need an updated modem driver or b) a virus is preventing the re-installation of my current one (I think). If (a), then I need a modem driver for CompaQ S4020WM that I can first download to CD on another computer and then install on the stricken computer. If (b), then I need an anti-virus program that can first be downloaded to CD and installed.. Any fix that can only be downloade directly to the stricken computer won't help because that machine can't access the internet in the first place.
So can I download AVG 7.1.371 or Avast 4.6.744 or Hijack this to CD? And d'you know of a site where I can find a suitable modem driver?
Thanks in advance for your help.
