Can't download Pc scan & anti spyware

Even my limited knowledge of my computer tells me that it may have become infected with something or other. I am trying to download one of the recommended 'free' antispyware Pc Scans, but every time I attempt this a web site called NKVD.US interfers and opens. When I close this website I am returned to the openning page of my intended site.
The NKVD.US site seems to be preventing me downloading any PC scan.

How can I locate and remove the NKVD.US site, or how can I bypass it to download the PC Scan

My technical knowledge of PCs is limited however, I recognise that my PC, running Windows 98, may have become 'infected'. In particular when I try to download one of the recommended PC scans I keep getting a website called NKVD.US interupting the download. This Website seems to be able to prevent me running such a scan. Does anyone know how I can track down and remove this website from my PC...

At minimum, a HijackThis log is definitely needed.

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free (trial) version of Ewido trojan scanner:

1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

REBOOT.

As a minimum, try to acquire the HijackThis program through another PC via diskette, pen drive, or CD:
Read This First - IMPORTANT Instructions



Run it and post a HijackThis log, so that we have some beginning point of reference to work with (initial HijackThis items to remove).

Many thanks for the suggestions on how to overcome my problem with NKVD.US. However, this site will not allow me to download any of the suggested remedies. Any other suggestions other than to completely wipe clean my whole system and start again??

If you cannot do the following (with no possibilty of any headway being made) then you will have to seriously considering wiping your PC or taking it to a shop. That application does not need to be installed - it is a SMALL simple running program that will produce a log which identifies potential malware lines that may need to be MANUALLY removed. It can even easily run from a diskette or pen drive:


You should also scan the source media with your antivirus before posting it via another PC. Many AV tools will allow you to right click on the DRIVE FOLDER and select 'scan with' [your antivirus program].
